Last week my husband and I drove up into the mountains, up Left Hand Canyon outside of Boulder, all the way to Gold Hill and down via Sunshine Canyon. Left Hand Canyon (named after Arapahoe Chief Niwot) is very narrow and winding until you get to the top at the tiny old mining town of Gold Hill. When you descend into Sunshine Canyon, a huge mountain valley opens up before your eyes, with hill upon hill of gently curved terrain. I would love to live up there!

This is a new color sketch for a large oil painting I’m excited to begin. As I paint, I can imagine myself back up in Sunshine Canyon, soaking up the beauty of the view and gentle mountain air. Ah, blissful thoughts.
