I’m predicting that the new art exhibits in Niwot Friday night will see people turning out in DROVES! Our recent 9 inches of snow will be melted by then at the last minute. The temp will be a balmy 50 degrees and folks will be set free from winter’s icy lingering.

Osmosis, the best little gallery in Northern Colorado, is hosting the annual “Why Not Niwot” art exhibit, challenging artists to address the theme of what makes the town so special. My painting last year created the scene of Chief Niwot’s campfire at the creek. This year I went contemporary, with the spectacular view of the St. Vrain River valley as seen from our very own street. Colors are “artistic license.” The show will be up for a month, but if you are in the area, come on over. If there are not oodles of people milling around the various gallery venues hosting the show, I’ll eat my painter’s apron!

There is a mountain range in Colorado named the Never Summer range by Arapahoe native Americans. We wimpy settlers of the front range prairies complain that we can’t start our gardens on time with all this snow. But it might be good to remember that half our state of Colorado is high altitude and that’s what makes us beautiful, snow and all.

Our readers from other parts of the world are probably laughing at we Coloradoans who complain when we feel our usual sunny weather has been in short supply this spring. Still, I know there are places painters and photographers love to visit, for the special light. New Mexico, Italy, Southern France, New Zealand, to name a few. I welcome your ideas!

Thanks for reading,

Karen
