Art Studio Buddies: does your pet keep you company in your favorite place to make your paintings or quilts?

He’s our “little man”, Romie. Mid-painting, I’m thinking out loud, which means I’m talking to the nearest pet, one of three, Romie.

“So Romie, are we getting close to the finish of this painting? (He’s on the floor by my feet. Head raises up…)

“Oh, were you talking to me?”

“Yeah, buddy, let’s take a photo of the painting right now. That way, if I over-paint, I can go back. But I won’t do that, right Romie? Let’s not do that.”

Now Romie is up and looking very alert. He knows I’m asking him some things that seem important. Not to him, but to me. But he cares, so it’s now he thinks it’s important to both of us.

He says, “You just asked me something important. Does that mean it’s time to go outside and then get a treat?”

Oh, don’t you love the unfailing optimism of your studio buddies? We need that in the studio, that feeling that this is going to work out well.

“Yes Romie, you read my mind. Let’s go.”

WE love our doggies! Mine are in the studio with me too. Two pups lazing on the couch!
