I decided to join McCall’s Quilting Magazine’s cruise trip many months ago and planned to teach an art and design class for quilters, not exactly knowing what I was in for. Gradually the staff and teaching team of McCall’s clued me in. We were planning to teach 122 quilters in 3 concentrated days aboard a Royal Caribbean Cruise ship and also take 3 days off to visit some island destinations. I’d been told this would involve lots of work to get lessons and quilter kits prepared, lots more work when we got to the ship. They weren’t kidding!

Our team of teachers landed in New Orleans and right away we decided to find a nice meal and walk through the French Quarter. Oh MY! This area is now my new favorite place for inspiration of vintage buildings and architecture.

There is no match for a lovely young lady like Bridgette to guide a person through the sumptuous offerings at the Gumbo Shop restaurant in New Orleans. Fellow designer Gerri Robinson and I chose the Crawfish Etouffe’, so delicious! I want to learn to create this dish!

We were so busy getting our kits for quilters ready we finally realized on landing in the city that it is now Mardi Gras in New Orleans, with many days of parades and celebrations! Didn’t take too long for us to join in watching the parades, catch our beads and join the New Orleans folks for fun and cameradery.

I am excited to tell you more about this travel trip and how we can take advantage of finding ourselves in a totally new environment that might boost our creative life.

Questions at this point…

Does travel help you to find new inspirations that end in more creative thinking and work? Please share…
