A prairie wedding and family photos bring new inspiration

I absolutely love this image of my daughter Anne as she tried on a pretty hairpiece for her upcoming wedding, 2011. This was a cell phone photo, not great focus, but no matter. It is what it is,

and the lighting was wonderful. And of course, there she is in the mirror reflection, trying on the gown as well.

Our lovely girls together, Anne and Katie. I’m not great as the family album record keeper, but I managed to save some favorite photos by our good friend Mikel Healey, who came all the way from Santa Monica to take pictures. Her wonderful husband Jeff Colella is also dear to us, and played jazz piano for the event along with my brother Bob for the processional. Miles Davis tune. yes.

There were so many gorgeous flowers for the wedding day, and somehow other sentimental items came into the scene, how could I not try to capture a photo? Now I am going back to see if I can make a painting…

I made this painting several years ago from a photo I took outdoors at the same area where Annie and Spencer got married. Maybe it’s time to make another painting, although my style has changed and it might come out very different. No matter. More meaning to this new idea now, as sentiment runs deep with our happy occasion of life.

We built this pergola with a ton of sweat and muscle, from the dirt up. Annie and Spencer helped to dig prairie dirt, man the wheel barrow to move in the base gravel and stones, with Rob puffing along,  me too. Our great neighbors Fran and Steve came over one morning with food and drink, left over from their daughter Whitney’s graduation party. LOVE you sweeties! They witnessed much labor goin’ on.

It all made for a lovely ceremony, our good friend Dave from Maine officiating as pastor. Our buddy and photographer Kim Weston came to visit later and is calling it something like the Taj Mahal. Ha! This is not Carmel and sea level, buddy! Big sky, bigger scale!

Mikel caught a great photo of my dad with daughter Annie. Dad was looking dapper that day. He’s in our prayers now for some health recovery. Love you dad.

What a darling man here next to me. Always thankful for him and the great people God has put into our lives from our beginnings.

He made us creative people and we do our best to make use of our talents, which comes down to our joy.
