I have the good fortune to have several friends and family who were my test students for an upcoming class next week I’m teaching on how to make an art quilt. We made the color plan with beautiful colored papers cut and pasted into the composition. Niece Emily teaches kids with Autistic and other disabilities. She had many good comments for me to make this a good presentation for art quilters of all skill levels. Thanks sweet Em!

I taught 2 practice classes. One was taught to experienced quilters who did a fabulous job. The next week I taught the family group, all levels of experience and ages. They created on an amazing level as well. The nieces have the “art genes” I think, but my Aunt Roberta who is in her seventies made a wonderful creation and added her own unique ideas to her piece. She was a lawyer in her day, and a brilliant lady on all counts!

Here’s the final art quilt all 8 of my test students worked with to make their beginning color sketch with art papers. They will then go on to make the same creation with fabrics of their choice. Next week I will be teaching four classes of 30 students each, all avid quilters. I can’t wait to see how they do!

We art people work on our own so much of the time. I believe it’s healthy to try and get together now and then with others to share our creative spirits, whatever the project or endeavor. Everyone benefits and we have a chance to share our lives in the process. What ideas do you have for connecting with others in a creative project?

Thank you everyone who helped me get ready to teach in this big event! I will let you know how things go…

love, Karen
